About Waterville
At the meeting of New York 12 and 315, Waterville sits on the line between the Oneida County towns of Marshall and Sangerfield. The area was traditional Oneida territory before European-American settlement around 1792. Later, mills and textile work gave the village its economic shape; Waterville Knitting Mill produced textiles until the early 1980s, and the Waterville Triangle Historic District preserves part of that older village fabric. The local calendar has carried that history in practical ways: the volunteer fire department's Field Days became a summer tradition, and Cruisin' Into Waterville has returned each fall since 2005. Waterville Central School District serves several nearby communities from Memorial Park Elementary and Waterville Jr/Sr High School. The old mill, two state routes, school buildings, and recurring events still give this central New York village its recognizable shape.
