About Watford City

Watford City is a city and the county seat of McKenzie County, North Dakota, founded in 1914 with the arrival of the Great Northern Railroad. Located within the Bakken oil field, the community of approximately 6,000 experienced rapid population growth during the North Dakota oil boom following the 2010 census. The city is the headquarters of McKenzie Electric Cooperative and home to the First International Bank, and is served by the Watford City Public School District.
