Wayne City, IL

Wayne City is a Wayne County village; the 2020 census counted 994 residents. It is known locally as the Bean Capital of Little Egypt. The village grew along the old Air Line, later Southern, Railroad and incorporated in 1882. Soybeans became an important local crop, and the railroad once brought farm products into town for sale. Today Illinois roads connect Wayne City to the surrounding farms and the wider southern Illinois region, but the old agricultural identity remains in the name people use for the place.
