Waynetown, IN

Waynetown is a Montgomery County town in Wayne Township, with 960 residents in the 2020 census. Samuel Mann platted it as Middletown in 1830, but the name changed to Waynetown as the settlement grew. U.S. Route 136 runs through the center as Washington Street, leading nine miles east-southeast to Crawfordsville and 11 miles west-northwest to Veedersburg. The East Fork of Coal Creek also passes through town on its way toward the Wabash River. The town's Coal Creek setting is part of its everyday orientation.

North Montgomery School Corporation serves Waynetown, with Sommer Elementary handling the town's elementary students and the wider district connecting several Montgomery County communities. The town's utility office, council meetings, cleanup days, and local event calendar keep civic life focused on the same central streets that carried early travelers. Waynetown is a small western Montgomery County place with a creek through its map, a highway through its center, and a school system that reaches into the surrounding countryside.
