Webb, AL

Webb is a Houston County town in southeast Alabama, about seven miles east of Dothan on State Highway 52. The 2020 census counted 1,270 residents. Route 52 runs northeast-southwest through town, with County Road 48 crossing it toward the surrounding farms and smaller communities. Webb sits in Dothan’s wider working orbit, but its own town government, elementary school, and older street grid give it a separate local center.

The town grew on land sold or donated by plantation owner B.F. Webb, who arrived around 1890. The Central of Georgia Railroad reached his property in 1899, and a depot turned the settlement into a small rail stop. A post office opened in 1900, the first school followed in 1901, and Webb incorporated in 1903. The town’s history also includes the 1918 tornado, a replacement schoolhouse built in 1935, and the 1965 water system. Today the old rail-and-road pattern remains visible in a town serving the farms and suburbs north of Dothan.
