Weeping Water, NE

Weeping Water takes its name from the stream that runs through town. The Oto and Omaha name, Nigahoe, referred to the sound of water moving over low falls; English speakers eventually turned that idea into "Weeping Water." The city’s other defining feature is limestone. Quarrying remains part of the local economy, and late June brings Limestone Day, with a parade, games, races, and fireworks.
