About Wells

Wells is a Faribault County city laid out in 1869 and named for Rebecca Wells Thompson, whose family helped shape the new settlement. Her husband, Clark W. Thompson, was involved in the Southern Minnesota Railroad and later built a mill, creamery, cheese factory, barrel factory, and vinegar factory in town. Wells grew as a railroad town, with State Highways 22 and 109 still carrying traffic through the city. The Leland Muret N. House is listed on the National Register. Wells is a Minnesota place with a founder’s family name and a long list of early industries.
