Wellsville, KS

Wellsville is a Franklin County city just off I-35, less than 20 miles south of the Kansas City area. The 2020 census counted 1,953 residents. Its town story is tied to the Santa Fe Railroad: the first survey came in 1870, the railroad encouraged growth, and the city incorporated in 1884. Wellsville once carried the nickname English Blue Grass Capitol for its grass-seed production, and an early bank at 418 Main remains on the National Register. Main Street still carries the civic center, with City Hall at 411 Main and Wellsville Days returning as the town's signature celebration.

City council meetings are held there each month as well. The city is planning a community park and commercial projects, while current notices cover council meetings, planning commission work, utilities, and the I-35 connection to Kansas City. Wellsville has a railroad-era core and a current highway connection to the metro, with city services and event programming concentrated around its older Main Street grid.
