About Wentzville

Wentzville began in 1855 as a seven-block railroad station town on land William M. Allen provided beside the right-of-way. The western St. Charles County city grew slowly as an agricultural community until General Motors began building an assembly plant in 1980; the facility opened in 1983 and produces Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks plus Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans. Census counts rose from 29,070 residents in 2010 to 44,372 in 2020, followed by a 2024 estimate of 48,646. At Fireman’s Park, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial first dedicated on December 2, 1967, began as a tree-of-lights campaign that also sent Christmas packages to local servicemen in Vietnam.
