West Baraboo, WI

Along the Baraboo River, West Baraboo sits immediately west of the City of Baraboo in Sauk County. Its 2020 population was 1,627. The village began as Lyons in the 1840s and was incorporated as West Baraboo in 1956. The original plat reserved Clinton Square for a courthouse; the square later became the site of Village Hall, giving the old plan a civic use that is still visible. The river forms the village’s southern edge, and US 12, WIS 33, and WIS 136 tie the small village to Baraboo and the wider Wisconsin Dells region.

West Baraboo’s daily map overlaps with Baraboo’s. The Baraboo School District serves the village, and the city’s commercial streets and larger institutions sit just across the boundary. Inside the village, Haskins Park reaches the Baraboo River with a pier and boat launch, while the village’s three named parks provide shelters, playgrounds, and gathering places. Beyond the boundary, Devil’s Lake and Mirror Lake state parks, the Baraboo Range, and the Wisconsin River shape the broader setting. At Haskins Park, the village meets the river; across the boundary, Baraboo supplies the schools, shops, and larger regional destinations.
