About West Buechel
West Buechel is a home-rule-class city in central Jefferson County, a small incorporated place almost entirely surrounded by Louisville/Jefferson County government. Watterson Park borders it on the west; the rest of the city line meets consolidated Louisville. The city incorporated in 1951 during Louisville's postwar housing expansion and still maintains its own city hall, police department, ordinances, and community center. Bashford Avenue is the address for City Hall, while Hikes Avenue carries the police department. That split civic setup is the key local detail: West Buechel has a separate municipal name and government, but its streets sit inside the larger Louisville map. It is a compact Louisville-area city where the boundary line matters as much as the downtown.
