West Canton, NC

West Canton is a Haywood County census-designated place on the Pigeon River, immediately west of the town of Canton. The river forms the community’s northern edge, while the surrounding valley belongs to the Cherokee homeland of western North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The place now shares Canton’s broader road and river corridor, but keeps its own census name. West Canton is a North Carolina mountain community defined by a river boundary, a neighboring town, and the Indigenous history beneath both.
