West Fairview, PA

West Fairview sits on a hilly peninsula where the Conodoguinet Creek meets the Susquehanna, facing Harrisburg from the opposite shore. It is the oldest village in East Pennsboro Township, and its name has changed with the map: Neidigtown, Maytown, Poverty Point, and Fairview all appeared before West Fairview became the post-office name in 1852. Abraham Neidig bought the land in 1815 and laid out lots as the settlement grew. That shoreline is part of the village’s address.

Today the water still gives the place its shape. West Fairview Park occupies the creek side and provides a launch point for boating and fishing, while the streets turn back toward the township and the Harrisburg skyline. The community is no longer a borough; it is a CDP within East Pennsboro, with the old village pattern and river-facing view doing more to define it than a formal municipal boundary. The water is not just scenery here; it is the edge of the neighborhood and the route to the park for daily recreation.
