West Little River, FL

A municipal reversal helped produce West Little River's present map. Miami annexed most of the area in 1925, then relinquished jurisdiction during the Great Depression, leaving it in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. The census-designated place lies about nine miles north-northwest of downtown Miami, with Hialeah along its western side and the Little River Canal forming part of its northeastern edge. Westview, Pinewood, El Portal, Gladeview, and Liberty City meet other portions of the boundary, placing West Little River among several distinct municipalities and unincorporated communities rather than inside a single city. The 2020 census recorded 34,128 residents. Major north-south streets shown on the county's 2026 North Central area map include Northwest 7th, 17th, 22nd, and 27th avenues, while Northwest 79th Street crosses the southern portion of the area. Miami-Dade County operates several of the public places used for recreation and services. Arcola Lakes Park combines a pool, senior center, banquet hall, and a Fit2Play summer camp for children ages 6 through 14.

Its published schedule also includes public swimming, water exercise, learn-to-swim registration, and an active-older-adults program with fitness, games, field trips, and arts activities; recurring offerings listed by the county include line dancing, tai chi, and sewing. West Little River Park provides another county recreation site with program and facility registration through ParkLink. Arcola Lakes Branch Library on Northwest 7th Avenue adds a meeting room, public printing, and scheduled programs for children, teens, and adults. Transit follows the same street grid: Miami-Dade's March 2025 service adjustment kept Route 17 on Northwest 17th Avenue and extended every trip to the 163rd Street Mall terminal. Together, these facilities place swimming, youth and senior programming, library services, and a north-south bus connection along the neighborhood's principal corridors.
