West Point, AL

West Point is a Cullman County town in northwest Alabama, built around a crossroads that began filling with homes in the late 1870s. A sawmill, grist mill, cotton gin, and general store followed, and residents chose the name West Point around 1910. The town's first school opened in 1918, a high school followed in the early 1930s, and incorporation came in October 1977. State Highway 157 now bisects the town, carrying the same through-route role that earlier roads once held. That pattern still matters.

Education and local history give West Point its clearest centers. Cullman County schools operate the elementary, intermediate, middle, and high schools, while the Crooked Creek Civil War Museum sits just beyond the town's southern edge. County agriculture—especially poultry, sweet potatoes, and other farm production—fills the surrounding landscape. West Point is a small north Alabama town with a crossroads beginning, a four-school pattern, and a nearby museum that ties its present roads to the county's older history.
