About West Tawakoni

West Tawakoni is a Hunt County city on the west side of Lake Tawakoni, with East Tawakoni across the water in Rains County. The Sabine River Authority created the reservoir in 1960, and West Tawakoni incorporated in 1967 on the west side of the causeway. The Texas Legislature later gave the city the “Catfish Capital of Texas” title. West Tawakoni is a reservoir city whose whole map turns on which side of the water you are standing, with the lake serving as the line between two towns and two counties.
