West Warren, MA

West Warren is a village and census-designated place in the town of Warren, Massachusetts, set along the Quaboag River west of the center village. Warren's early mills followed the river, and the Western Railroad arrived in 1839 with a depot that helped push the town into a new industrial era. West Warren became the mill side of the town: the West Warren Cotton Mills added dams, factories, tenements, cottages, and streets full of worker housing. By the late 1800s, several mills were spread along the river, and the village had its own schools, churches, and neighborhood institutions.

The mill buildings have changed, but West Warren still feels like a river-and-industry village rather than a detached suburb. The old housing, mill complex, railroad corridor, and Quaboag valley sit alongside farms and newer uses, while Route 20 now runs south of the older center. Warren's landscape keeps both halves of the story visible: manufacturing shaped the village, agriculture stayed in the surrounding hills, and the river remains the line tying the pieces together.
