Westerville, OH

Westerville was once called the “Dry Capital of the World” because of its alcohol restrictions and its role as headquarters of the Anti-Saloon League, a major force in the Prohibition movement. The league’s former headquarters was transferred to the Westerville Public Library in 1973 and now operates as an attached museum. A northeastern Columbus suburb spanning Franklin and Delaware counties, Westerville had 39,190 residents in 2020. Otterbein University began when the Church of the United Brethren in Christ bought a seminary in 1846 and renamed it Otterbein College the next year. Benjamin Russell Hanby enrolled there after moving to Westerville in 1849; his house stands one block from the campus.
