About Westfield

Westfield is a Marquette County village mostly within the Town of Westfield, with a small piece extending into the Town of Harris. The settlement began in 1848 and was platted in 1856 by Pickens Boynton for Robert Cochrane, who is generally treated as the village's founder. Westfield was incorporated in 1902. That sequence matters more than a population figure: the village grew from a planned townsite into a place with county institutions while keeping its own boundary inside a larger town.

Two buildings give Westfield a strong local reference point. The Cochrane-Nelson house, built on Lawrence Street in 1902 or 1903, now holds the Marquette County Historical Society Museum, and the Riverside School from the district formed in 1853 is preserved nearby. South of the village, the Marquette County Fairgrounds bring the county fair into town each July; the 2026 fair is scheduled for July 15–19 at 757 Main Street. Westfield's map therefore runs from village streets to a county museum and a working fairground, with the School District of Westfield serving three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
