Westminster, SC

Westminster grew from a railroad stop founded in 1875 in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The city's restored depot now serves as a downtown gathering point, and more than 100 original homes preserve late-19th- and turn-of-the-century architecture. The 2020 census counted 2,353 residents. Oconee County's foothill geography also leaves Westminster surrounded by farms, orchards, rivers, lakes, and routes leading across the Upstate. Apple culture supplies the best-known annual event: the South Carolina Apple Festival fills the first two weeks of September with a parade, vendors, booths, and other public activities.

Monthly Music on Main concerts take place in spring and summer, alongside a Christmas parade and the South Carolina Bigfoot Festival in October. Westminster's industrial base includes US Engine Valve, Ulbrich, and Sandvik Tooling Supply, while farmland and small and large farms remain part of the surrounding economy. Main Street, the restored depot, seasonal events, and the farmed foothills give the city a clear link between railroad history, manufacturing, agriculture, and current community activity.
