About Westmoreland

Westmoreland is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The 2010 census counted 6,138 residents. Westmoreland is in the west-central part of the county. The New York State Thruway passes across the town. Westmoreland comprises an elementary school, an upper elementary school, and a junior-senior high school. The short version is that Westmoreland carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Westmoreland: its past remains attached to the places people use now. Westmoreland is west of Utica. Westmoreland was first settled in 1748, by James Dean, a missionary among the members of the Oneida tribe. Westmoreland was formed in 1792 from the Town of Whitestown.
