Wewahitchka, FL

Wewahitchka, known simply as Wewa to locals, is a quiet Florida Panhandle town of about 2,000 residents. The name comes from a Creek phrase meaning “water eyes,” inspired by the two round lakes right in the center of town. Life here is slow and peaceful, with a friendly neighborhood atmosphere and plenty of open space. It appeals to people looking to trade busy suburbs for a relaxed, small-town setting where neighbors know each other.

Daily life revolves around the water and the outdoors. Wewa is famous for its Tupelo honey industry, celebrated every May with an annual festival at Lake Alice. Just north of town, the Dead Lakes offer fantastic freshwater fishing, boating, and kayaking among ancient cypress trees. Even with all the rural charm, you are only about thirty minutes from the beaches in Port St. Joe and less than an hour from Panama City for shopping and medical services.
