About Wharton
Wharton is a historic residential borough in Morris County, New Jersey, bordering the town of Dover. Incorporated in 1895 as Port Oram and renamed in 1902 for industrialist Joseph Wharton of the Wharton Steel Company, the community of approximately 7,300 grew along the historic Morris Canal route. Today, the borough preserves a section of the canal and its Lock 2 East, with public education provided by the Wharton Borough Public Schools.
