White Plains, KY

White Plains is a home rule-class city in southeastern Hopkins County, where U.S. 62 runs through the northern part of town. The 2020 census counted 829 residents. The place began as Little Prairie; when the railroad arrived in 1870, it became the shipping point for another White Plains community in Christian County. The names White Plains Station and New White Plains followed, and the word “New” disappeared after the older community took the name Fruit Hill.

Today White Plains covers just over two square miles and handles its own water, sewer, and gas services. City Hall is also where the commission meets monthly; a 4,200-square-foot community center, city park, walking trail, ball park, and basketball court give the city its shared civic spaces. The volunteer fire department covers the community and surrounding areas, while the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office provides police service. Greenville lies 13 miles east on U.S. 62, and Nortonville four miles west, so the highway still doubles as White Plains’ regional spine.
