Whitewater, KS

Whitewater is a quiet small town in Butler County, sitting about 25 miles northeast of Wichita. With a population of around 660, it offers a peaceful rural atmosphere where neighbors know each other and life moves at a relaxed pace. Commuting into the city is simple thanks to Highway 196. Families here are served by the Remington school district, which keeps its middle school right in town and the high school just a short drive north along the country roads.

Founded in the late 1800s where two rail lines crossed, the town holds onto plenty of its local charm. Main Street is home to a few distinct stops, including a restored 1911 city jail, a photo museum, and the one-of-a-kind Museum of Walk-Behind Tractors. Even the school district has a storied namesake in Western artist Frederic Remington, who once ran a ranch in the area.
