About Whitney
Whitney is a Hill County town that grew around the Houston and Texas Central Railroad in 1876, then took its name from railroad principal stockholder Charles A. Whitney. The town sits just east of Lake Whitney, with Lake Whitney State Park a short drive west via FM 1244. State Highway 22 runs along the southeast side, while Hillsboro is the county seat east along the road. Whitney is central Texas in a railroad-and-lake shape, with the old rail town and the reservoir sharing the same local map.
