About Whittier
Whittier is a coastal city situated at the head of the Passage Canal in the Chugach Census Area, Alaska. Located approximately fifty-eight miles southeast of Anchorage, this unique community of under three hundred residents is set between glaciers and mountains. The city was once part of the portage route of the native Chugach people. Whittier is famous for its unique access, with land transport restricted to the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, a mixed-use road and rail tunnel.
