Wilmington, MA

Wilmington is a northern Middlesex County community about 16 miles north of Boston. Settlers established farms there around 1665, and Massachusetts incorporated the town on September 25, 1730, from parts of Woburn, Reading, and Billerica. The 2020 census counted 23,349 residents across the 16.97-square-mile Wilmington census-designated place. Silver Lake is a 28.5-acre kettlehole lake formed about 15,000 years ago by retreating ice. The Wilmington Town Museum occupies a c. 1770 farmhouse that Revolutionary War veteran Joshua Harnden operated as a tavern from 1794 to 1807; exhibits interpret its Georgian, Federal, and Victorian periods.
