About Wilseyville
Wilseyville is a Calaveras County foothill community whose history runs through the timber industry. The place was named for Lawrence Wilsey, a manager connected to the Blagen Mill near Arnold, and the local mill story was tied to American Forest Products and its Calaveras operations. The mill town burned twice during its short history, and the company’s interests were sold in 1962 as automation changed the business. The post office arrived in 1947, but the name still points back to the men, mills, and forest roads that shaped this part of the Sierra. Wilseyville is best understood through the logging map around it, not through a traditional downtown.
