About Wilsonville

Wilsonville is a Furnas County village first known as Wild Turkey, the name used by settlers arriving around 1870. Its post office opened in 1873, and the community took the Wilsonville name as merchants and a civic center gathered around the new town. Rural mail delivery arrived in 1903, telephones followed in 1905, and electricity and waterworks gradually extended local services. County histories also describe one-room schools serving the surrounding precincts. Wilsonville remains a compact southern Nebraska community, with a small street grid and farm roads linking it to the Republican River country and neighboring villages.
