About Windham
Windham is a Portage County village with one very large piece of wartime history next door. In 1940, the Ravenna Arsenal was established across 21,427 acres, including land from Windham Township, and the facility began producing munitions during World War II. In 1942, the federal government also chose the area for an Army camp tied to arsenal workers. The village today sits near I-80 and the Ohio Turnpike, with Windham schools serving local students. The local shorthand is early Ohio settlement, Arsenal-era military land, and a village whose name sits beside a major wartime site.
