Windsor, NY

Windsor is a Broome County town on New York's southern border, east of Binghamton, with the Susquehanna River running south through its villages and hamlets. The town was formed in 1807 from Chenango and includes the incorporated Village of Windsor, plus Damascus, East Windsor, West Windsor, and other river-road communities. Revolutionary War veterans were among its early settlers, and the town's five older cemeteries keep some of that settlement history on the map.

Windsor's later identity is tied to the river and the railroad. The Delaware and Hudson line reached the village in 1872, and the old station now houses the Charles L. English Windsor Museum, open on select Saturdays from spring through fall. In the late 1890s, three factories made Windsor a statewide center for buggy-whip production; one restored factory now serves as an art gallery near the village square. Route 79, Interstate 86 and New York Route 17, churches, diners, and the station connect the river town to Broome County and nearby Pennsylvania.
