Wink, TX

Wink is a small, quiet community set right in the heart of West Texas oil country. With fewer than a thousand residents, daily life revolves around the local energy industry and the Wink-Loving schools, where high school sports bring everyone together on weekends. Summer afternoons bring plenty of desert heat and the occasional dust storm, and you will make regular trips to nearby Kermit or Odessa for major shopping and healthcare. Still, folks who settle here value the peaceful pace, wide-open horizon, and neighbors who know each other by name.

The town was born during the 1926 oil boom when wildcatters hit big in the Hendrick field, and locals shortened the original name, Winkler, after learning another post office had already claimed it. Wink is also famous as the boyhood home of rock legend Roy Orbison, who started his first band, the Wink Westerners, right here as a high school student. That mix of boomtown history and deep oilfield pride still shapes the community today.
