Wisner, LA

Wisner is a town in southern Franklin Parish, 14 miles south of Winnsboro along US 425 and nine miles north of Sicily Island. The 2020 census counted 771 residents. Edward Wisner founded the town in 1892; he came from Michigan, and his family traced its roots to Switzerland. The town grew within a farming region where highways, churches, schools, and parish services connect a small population to larger communities.

Water and local gatherings give Wisner a present-day rhythm. Turkey Creek Recreation Park lies nearby with fishing, camping, boating, and an RV area, while the annual South Franklin Parish Catfish Festival brings a public event to the town calendar. Wisner is also one of Louisiana's designated Arts and Culture Districts, adding galleries, performances, and revitalization work to the older farm-and-highway setting. Its location in the southern parish keeps Winnsboro within reach for county business, while US 425 gives the town its north-south line. Wisner remains a small parish town with a farming base and a calendar built around food, water, and local culture.
