About Wisner

Wisner sits in northwestern Cuming County with the Elkhorn River running along its edge and Kane's Lake just south. The river does more than frame the town: its southeast angle bends Wisner's street grid, and floods in 1966 and 1994 left their mark. Wisner was platted in 1871, before the railroad reached town, and the River Park area once held an amusement park north of today's park. There is an old sports story here too - Wisner's farmer baseball team drew crowds across Nebraska and Iowa. Add the feedlots and cattle yards, and you get a town shaped by river, rail, ball, and livestock.
