About Wolcott

Wolcott is a White County town in Princeton Township whose streets were laid out by Anson Wolcott along the Pittsburgh, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad in 1861. Corn buying and shipping became the main trade in the 1860s, and the railroad still gives the town its historical orientation. The Anson Wolcott house, built around 1859, is marked by the state as the home of Wolcott’s founder; his ancestor Oliver Wolcott signed the Declaration of Independence. U.S. 24 runs through town, about four miles from Interstate 65.

Agriculture and manufacturing share Wolcott’s current economic map. The town lists Indiana Ribbon, Dwyer Instruments, Indiana Animal Health, San Juan Pools, Cives Steel, Tuthill, and Meadow Lake Wind Farm among its industrial and energy sites. Tri-County School Corporation was formed in 1964 from four school systems across Benton, Jasper, and White Counties, and its schools still serve a wider area than Wolcott alone. The town therefore connects a railroad-and-corn history to regional schools, local industry, and a highway corridor near Purdue University.
