Womens Bay, AK

Womens Bay, also called Bells Flats, is a census-designated place on the west side of Kodiak Island, about eight miles from the city of Kodiak. The 2020 census counted 743 residents. The community includes Bells Flats and Russian Creek subdivisions, with roads reaching it from West Rezanof Drive and the Chiniak Highway. Sargent Creek, Russian Creek, Panamaroff Creek, and nearby lakes give the settlement a water-and-road geography, while Kodiak handles the nearest hospital, ferry, and air connections.

The Womens Bay Service Area was established in 1975 and is managed by an elected board for fire and road services. The volunteer fire department serves structural and wildland calls, lends chimney brushes, and uses its Sargent Creek firehouse for training, meetings, equipment, and emergency shelter. Children attend Peterson Elementary, Kodiak Island Borough Middle School, and Kodiak Island Borough High School outside the CDP. Panamaroff Creek Park has playground equipment and a bus shelter, while Sargent Creek Park sits by the firehouse. Womens Bay is a spread-out Kodiak community, with subdivisions, creeks, service roads, and borough facilities doing the everyday work.
