About Wood River
Wood River is a Hall County city whose history literally followed the railroad. The first townsite was laid out in 1868, but when Union Pacific moved the depot, the town shifted to its current location in 1874. The Wood River runs nearby, and the city now sits in the Grand Island metro orbit with Wood River Rural Schools serving the community. Wood River is central Nebraska in a depot-and-river arrangement, where the tracks decided exactly where the streets would stay.
