Woodbury, GA

Woodbury is a city in Meriwether County, centered where Georgia Routes 18 and 109 meet Millarden Road and Route 85. The 2020 census counted 908 residents. The town sits among the rolling farm country and wooded watercourses of west-central Georgia, with Greenville eight miles northwest and Zebulon 19 miles northeast. The Flint River and Lake Meriwether add water to the map, while historic homes and churches keep the older town center visible.

Woodbury's history reaches back to 1845, when the place was first called Woodberry. The spelling later changed, and local tradition connects the name to Levi Woodbury, a New Hampshire statesman and Supreme Court justice. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the city in 1913. Today the town's crossroads still matter, but so do the river and lake: a Highway 18 bridge gives access to Flint River outings, and Lake Meriwether holds recreation and community events. Woodbury is a small Meriwether County city with a road junction, a long name story, and water on both sides of its daily life.
