Woodland, MI

Woodland is a village in the northeastern corner of Barry County, where village streets sit inside a rural, agricultural township. The township describes its landscape through large and small farms, a small downtown, and a residential center connected with Lansing and Grand Rapids. Township Hall is at 156 South Main Street, and the regular second-Tuesday meeting gives that address a recurring civic role. The village's small-town scale comes through in the way the main street, homes, and surrounding fields meet within a compact center.

A piece of Woodland's school history survives outside the village. Lee #7 schoolhouse was built in 1869 at the corner of Martin and Carlton Center roads along M-43, where eight grades were taught. In 1975, the building moved to Historic Charlton Park in Hastings, where it remains part of the museum village. That history gives Woodland a direct link to the one-room-school era, while the village's present-day center remains tied to township services and the roads through Barry County. The local picture is a farm community with a civic address at South Main, a compact residential downtown, and a schoolhouse remembered in a nearby living-history setting.
