About Woodstock

Woodstock is a Bibb-and-Tuscaloosa County town that was first settled in the 1820s along the Tuscaloosa-to-Huntsville stage line. Railroads arrived in 1870 and 1872, turning the place into a shipping yard for coal, iron ore, and cotton; local clay also fed a jug and pottery trade. The town was incorporated as North Bibb in 1996 and took back the Woodstock name in 2000, honoring an older local settlement and an English namesake. Woodstock is an Alabama rail town with iron, coal, clay, and a name that has made a full circle.
