Woodville, CA

Woodville is a Tulare County farming hamlet on the south side of the Tule River, about 21 miles south of Visalia and nine miles northeast of Tipton. The 2020 census counted 1,680 residents. The community was laid out in 1916, though the farm settlement and post office came earlier. Its name refers to the oak trees along the Tule River's overflow country. Woodville was built around farm labor and rural services, with fields and roads running right up to the community.

The Woodville Farm Labor Camp, dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1934, remains one of the most distinctive local landmarks; Tulare County Housing Authority operates its 178 family units and a daycare center. Woodville Elementary serves the grade-school community, while Porterville and Visalia pull the area into larger work and shopping patterns. This is a place where the history is still on the landscape: oak trees along the river, farm fields around the roads, and a labor camp that connects today's town to the agricultural workforce that built it.
