Woodville, MS

Woodville is a Wilkinson County town in southwest Mississippi, with 928 residents in the 2020 census and a long-standing county-seat role. Wilkinson County was carved from Adams County in 1802, Woodville incorporated in 1811, and the town soon became the seat of county government. Its rolling hills sit near the Louisiana line, giving the town a Natchez-area setting with its own courthouse square and older residential streets.

Woodville’s historic district contains 129 buildings dating roughly from 1820 to 1930, including the old banking house now associated with the Wilkinson County Museum and African American Cultural Center. The Woodville Republican, operating since 1823, adds a newspaper thread to the town’s civic life. Clark Creek Natural Area, the county museum, the courthouse, and the historic district give Woodville a map that reaches beyond the square. The town’s streets still turn around that civic core.
