Woodville, WI

Woodville is a St. Croix County village whose modern map is tied to Interstate 94, U.S. 12, and County Roads B, BB, and D. The 2020 census counted 1,386 residents. It was first settled in 1870 with ties to the railroad and logging industry, so the village’s name is more literal than fancy: wood, rail, and the western Wisconsin country around them. Norwegian heritage is part of the local story too, with Syttende Mai giving the community a yearly excuse to celebrate that connection.

Today, Woodville sits in the traffic stream between the Twin Cities and the St. Croix Valley, while the old railroad grade has a second life as the Wildwood Trail for walking, biking, and snowmobiling. The roads move people through; the local streets hold the schools, businesses, churches, and everyday stops that make the place distinct from the interstate. Woodville is a good example of a small Wisconsin village whose original industries changed while the transportation lines stayed in place.
