Worcester, NY

Worcester follows Schenevus Creek across southeastern Otsego County, northeast of Oneonta. Settlement began along the creek around 1788, and the town was formed from Cherry Valley in 1797. Interstate 88 and New York Route 7 now trace the same valley, giving Worcester a clear road-and-water orientation: the creek threads through the town while the highways carry people toward Oneonta and the rest of the county. The town includes a hamlet center and rural roads spreading into the Catskill foothills, so the creek corridor is the best way to get the geography in your head.

Worcester Central School keeps a major piece of local life at 198 Main Street. The district serves kindergarten through twelfth grade, with athletics, transportation, and school departments gathered around one community institution. Town government, the school, library, and Schenevus Creek are the useful points to keep in mind when reading the map.
