Yelvington, KY

Yelvington is a small Daviess County community along U.S. Route 60, about twelve miles east of Owensboro and near the Hancock County line. Its early map was shaped by two routes: the Vincennes-to-Hartford trail and the Yellow Banks trail, both part of the movement through northern Kentucky before modern highways. The Daviess County Court set the community's original boundaries in 1867, giving a formal outline to a place that had already been settled for decades.

Yelvington Baptist Church reaches farther back than the community's official boundaries. The congregation was organized on June 30, 1813, about two miles west of its present location, and remains the clearest historical institution tied to the place. The church, the old trails, and U.S. 60 all point to the same local pattern: Yelvington is a crossroads community whose history grew from movement between Owensboro, the Ohio River country, and the interior roads of Daviess County. Its story is still legible in the routes that bring the community together.
