About Yogaville

Yogaville is a Buckingham County census-designated place organized around Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville, an Integral Yoga community founded by Swami Satchidananda. The ashram occupies 750 acres near the James River and serves as the international headquarters for Integral Yoga Institutes and Centers. Its grounds include a teaching academy, meeting and events hall, dining hall, library, guest accommodations, monastery, maintenance center, and sacred sites for prayer and meditation. Many residents of the surrounding Yogaville community built homes on adjacent land, so the CDP’s physical layout is closely tied to the institution.

At the center is the Light Of Truth Universal Shrine, or LOTUS, dedicated in 1986 to interfaith harmony and world peace. Its altars represent major faith traditions, and the ashram’s regular schedule includes yoga classes, group meditation, scripture study, chanting, and interfaith services. Residents, students, staff, and visitors share the same campus-centered geography. Yogaville has a small census footprint, yet its headquarters, programs, and interfaith shrine connect this rural Virginia place to an international religious and cultural network.
