York Springs, PA

York Springs is an Adams County borough on Pennsylvania Route 94, with U.S. 15 just southeast. The 2020 census counted 683 residents. The borough began as Petersburg and took its current name from York Sulphur Springs, a nineteenth-century resort that drew visitors from Philadelphia and Baltimore by stagecoach. The springs were Adams County's first summer resort; the old resort declined after railroads changed regional travel, but its name still sits on Main Street and in the local historical record. The state route is still the borough's main street and its clearest regional connection.

Today York Springs is tied to the 75-square-mile Bermudian Springs School District, which includes the borough and nearby rural townships. The borough office is on Main Street, and Ye Olde Sulphur Spa Historical Society keeps a museum and archives at 408 Main Street with regular programs and events. That gives the small borough a clear present-day circuit: Route 94, the school district, borough office, and a museum built around the spring-era history.
