Yorkana, PA

Yorkana is a quiet borough in the rolling countryside of eastern York County. Surrounded by Lower Windsor Township, the community mainly stretches along Main Street as it winds past older homes and open fields. The town got its start in the late 1700s around a crossroads tavern that served travelers heading toward the Susquehanna River. Early residents originally called the settlement Millersville, but they eventually chose the name Yorkana so the post office would stop mixing up their mail with the town across the river in Lancaster County.

In the late nineteenth century, Yorkana grew into a lively hub for cigar making, supporting local trade shops, churches, and general stores. Over time, those small industries faded, leaving behind a peaceful residential setting. Today, it offers a relaxed, rural pace with an easy commute to York and Wrightsville. Families are served by the Eastern York School District, and community staples like the volunteer fire company keep neighbors connected.
