Zavalla, TX

Zavalla is a small East Texas town sitting about 25 miles southeast of Lufkin at the junction of U.S. 69 and Highway 63. Home to around 600 residents, it has a relaxed, rural atmosphere surrounded by the tall pines of the Angelina National Forest. The community got its start as a railroad and timber town in the early 1900s, but it really grew into its current identity once the nearby Sam Rayburn Reservoir was built in the 1960s.

These days, life in Zavalla is closely tied to the lake. The town sits right by the western shore of Lake Sam Rayburn, giving locals easy access to Cassels-Boykin Park for boating, camping, and some of the best bass fishing in the state. Local life centers on the Zavalla school district and community gatherings, making it a comfortable fit for retirees, fishermen, and anyone looking for a quiet home base in the woods.
